Practice Of Partners Hair Design
My partners hair design consists of two crimp and back combed buns that include a lot of volume. She wanted the look to be messy and un-neat as I believed that what her character was like, she has also added in detailing on the front of the face which are swirls of hair stuck on by hair-jel making it look very effective. I have practice this look a couple of times now and I feel quite confident in performing the hairstyle but we have changed some aspects when creating it to make the look even better than the original idea.
The first steps when doing this look was separating the hair into two to create a clean middle parting right down the center of the head. She wanted a really clean sleek finish with the hair at the front of the head. Therefore when tying up the hair into two pigtails on either side of the head I brush the hair up while putting them in so to create this sleek look. When having the hair up in two pigtails I crimped both pigtails and then when I finished I hair sprayed them and then backcomb, working from the bottom to the top.
In the second steps of the look I took the first pigtail and and whilst it still being backcombed I create the bun like we learnt earlier in the year and pinned it all in. To create a messier looks which is what my partner wanted I used the pin curl comb and the end of it to pull out little bits of hair. I then continued this on the other pigtail to create the main body of the look. The buns where not as equal as I would have liked because I did not backcomb the hair as much as I would have liked.
In the third step my partner wanted to create a pin curl that could stay on the face like in the original picture at the beginning of the blog. I did this by using the gel in the picture below I found that this gel was ok but it stayed wet for a long time rather than becoming tatty. So to create these pin curls I could small stands of hair and run the gel through the hair and by using the end of the pin curl comb I created a swirl on the face and then hair sprayed it to the face. This is the finished look.
Second Practice:
I decided to re-practice the design of my partners look a second time so I really had a good understanding of how to construct the look ready for our assessment. When doing the look in the first practice it went very well but there were some elements I would change to make the look even better. The first aspects that I changed when doing the second practice was firstly to do with the crimping technique. In the previous practice when putting the hair into pigtails and then crimping each section of hair I took smaller pieces of hair and hair sprayed the hair first before crimping it which actually held the texture better and created more volume when I brushed the hair out with a brush. The second aspect we can was the product I used when creating the pin curls as the first product was very wet meaning it was harder for the curls to stick to the forehead. Compared to the second product which was thicker and more tatty meaning it dried a lot faster making it easier to create the curls. Lastly, my partner decided to put in some lace into the hair, rapping it around the buns to give the look more detail and interest to the eye.
