Final Contemporary Elizabethan Hair Designs
For my final project we were set the task to produce and plan our own hair design ideas based on the Elizabethan era but instead of having the traditional styles we had to take them and make them into contemporary versions that are inspire by the old designs. I started planning this process by firstly searching on web browsers like 'Google' and 'Pinterest' for inspiration of other contemporary ideas and hope this would help me gain some more ideas. I then wanted to relate the hair to my make-up idea for my character 'Anne Vavsour' who was a women who appeared innocent on the outside to adoring men but she had more of a seductive and darker side.First Design:
With my first design (top left) I have created two Elizabethan buns inspired by the traditional heart shape buns but made them into larger style buns which I think makes the look seem a bit more innocent as its similar to a child's look. Then adding to this innocent theme I added in two normal braids around the bottom of the buns to act as a rap and it gives the look more detail. I wanted to go for a innocent look for the hair as from the outer image of my character she was seen as a innocent women to men so I wanted to show this through a hairstyle. To finish off this look I wanted to portray a hint of the seductive side in the hair style so I decided to place twist pearl pins in the bun but as white pearls mean purity and represent virginity I wanted to paint them black as to highlight the opposite to this as my character was not pure.Second Design:
In my second design (top right) I have decided to have the front of the hair slicked back as I believe this portrays a powerful women who knows what she wants which I know my character would be. Then at the back of the hair I have created a low rolled bun which is again similar to the heart shape bun and which adds to the innocent look once again. I added a layer of plaits over the top of the bun which acts as netting, which as plaits are quite childish and this gives her this trait therefore relating to her children/motherly side. Finally I added the black pearl pins in the bun for the same reasons as the first design.Third Design:
In my third design (bottom left) the look is almost identical to the second look with the slicked back hair and low bun. However I have added a french braid which starts from the front of the hair line and travels down the right side of the head, which then rapped underneath the low bun. I decided to do this as it adds more detailing to the look and again adds innocence as plaits are usually related to children.Fourth Design:
In my last look (bottom right) I decided to make it a half up half done look by having the heart shape buns on the top of the hair which could have a layer of lace netting over them to create another theme of look. But with the rest of the hair have it hanging down (crimped) and have lots of little plaits within the hair to create detail and texture and to lastly add on to the child/innocence theme.By Amelia Richmond-Knight
